Yoga and Earth Day go hand in hand. The nature of the poses and salutations in yoga naturally bring aspects of planet Earth into every practice. Taking care of our bodies, each other, and our surroundings are essential to our survival, and yoga truly embraces these beliefs. With April 22 being Earth Day, I find tying yoga to Earth Day is a wonderful way to help children further understand its importance.
A fun project to celebrate the Earth is to paint smooth rocks with an Earth Day theme. Words relative to protecting the Earth, pictures of trees, flowers, rainbows, or animals, make a great little mindful project. I use paint markers to color the rocks, which feels very similar in nature to coloring in mandalas for a mindful and meditative focusing state. The rocks should be handled kindly, just like the Earth. They should remind us of why we value the Earth, and they can even be used for a focus meditation when they are done. Get creative and enjoy the process!
Beyond crafts and meditating, there are plenty of ways to easily tie yoga into Earth Day:

yoga, food, family, and travel. these are what drive my life! as a stay at home mom of 2 little girls with an active yoga practice. i longed to find the perfect yoga class for my own children. i felt a calling to a kids yoga teacher training in early November, 2017 and answered the call. in 2018, i felt called towards a greater mission. teaching teens & adults. today, i am living my dream.
